In The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise, super-smart, somewhat geeky Audrey McCarthy can’t wait to get out of high school. Her father’s death and the transformation of her one-time BFF, Blake Dawkins, into her worst nightmare have her longing for the new start college will bring.

But college takes money. So Audrey decides she has to win the competition for the best app designed by a high schooler—and the $200,000 that comes with it. She develops something she calls the Boyfriend App, and suddenly she’s the talk of the school and getting kissed by the hottest boys around. But can the Boyfriend App bring Audrey true love?

Let me start by saying that before this book was published, I was really excited about it and can't wait to get my hands on it, and once I saw a copy in Edelweiss, I immediately requested it. In fact, when I got approved, I was jumping up ad own with glee and excitement and dove into it immediately. I mean, who wouldn't love this book based from the synopsis, right?

The main character, Audrey McCarthy, is a high school student who dreams to go to Notre Dame like her father did. So when the school announces a contest of creating apps, Audrey couldn't help but join. After all, this is her forte. After days of thinking, Audrey finally decided to create The Boyfriend App - an app that would determine who your best match is, and would alert you if your "ideal guy" is within a few meters from you.

I would say that the app is not what I expected it to be like, but I think I like this better. Isn't it just total genius?! But that's the only thing I liked about the book. Well, not just that, exactly, but I mean, there wasn't much to like about it.

The main idea is really interesting and unique, and that's why I think many got excited by this book. But then I think Katie's incorporation wasn't that good. The plot, for me, is really shaky. There were a lot of twists and turns that may or may not have necessarily made the novel better.

As I read the novel, I got the impression that the plot was not that well thought of, because the twists were really bizarre and absurd for me. When I got to the second part, it really went downhill. The twists and turns were farfetched, and it kinda strayed from what I thoght was the main plot.

Sure, it gave the element of surprise, but I think it was just there to make the story longer. I think that if the story was cut at some other point and had a different ending, I would have a different reaction about it.

Overall, I think the hype ruined the story, the twists and turns were too much, the plot was not in coordination with each other, but the idea was pure genius and original! Thus, I give it 3 stars

P.S.  I read this book ages ago, but just wrote the review now, so there may have been details that I have forgotten.
