I have a curse
I have a gift

I am a monster
I'm more than human

My touch is lethal
My touch is power

I am their weapon
I will fight back

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

If you know me well, you might probably know that I am VERY picky with the dystopian genre (despite my blog name). In fact, I tend to shy away from dystopian books because there are only very few that I like/love. So it really came as a surprise to me how much I enjoyed this book! Also, I did not like the sentences with strike through at first, but I soon came to understand it's purpose. I'm so glad that one of my blogger friends pushed me to finish this one, because I really enjoyed it!

Juliette's touch is fatal. One touch from her can kill you. People think she's insane, or that there's something terribly wrong with her, so she is sent to an asylum where they are locked in cells, and she hasn't touched anyone for exactly 264 days. Then Adam, someone she knew from her childhood, suddenly appears and shares a cell with her, asking questions and making her feel uncomfortable.

Later, Juliette learns that Adam was sent by Warner, a general who holds a lot of power in The Reestablishment, and Adam plans to use Juliette's fatal touch to induce fear. Warner teaches her that her touch is power, and he is determined to get Juliette to his side.

The plot of Shatter Me was a really exciting one. It has a very mysterious plot with a lot of unexpected - at least for me - twists and turns that made me really get into the book. I was always left not knowing what to expect, and that was part of the excitement of my journey in reading the book!

I really really want to read the second book already because I just need to know what happens! Luckily for me, I already have it on my shelf, so I just have to find the time to dive into it, yay!

This book is a matter of taste and preference, and not really about how good the book is, so I cannot guarantee that everyone will like it, but I can guarantee that I did. I guess the only way for you to know is to try it out!

“I always wonder about raindrops.

I wonder about how they're always falling down, tripping over their own feet, breaking their legs and forgetting their parachutes as they tumble right out of the sky toward an uncertain end. It's like someone is emptying their pockets over the earth and doesn't seem to care where the contents fall, doesn't seem to care that the raindrops burst when they hit the ground, that they shatter when they fall to the floor, that people curse the days the drops dare to tap on their doors."
