This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

I can't say that I wasn't intimidated by Illuminae's size when I first looked at it, because come on, it's a huge book with so many pages! I can, however, say that I was deeply fascinated when I scanned the book before reading it. Illuminae is a very uniquely formatter book - one that is told through hacked documents like emails, surveillance reports, classified reports, etc.

At first it was kind of hard for me to understand what was going on since there were no narrations. It took a while before the world set in for me, but once it did, I was hooked, even though some parts still confused the heck out of me. Although that may be because of my inexperience as a fantasy/sci-fi reader.

The book was very exciting, while still being able to keep a steady pace. There were so many things that happened in the book, and the authors got me so many times. And I really felt what Kady was feeling. As a result, I was always mad towards the end of the book. Haha! Even though it's a huge book, it's completely addicting. I'm just really amazed at how there's a book like this!

Gosh, I can't imagine the two authors' writing process, but I really want to know how they came up with the idea of the formatting. No wonder the hype surrounding this book is so huge! I mean, who wouldn't be hooked? And the images really helped me with imaging things. I actually felt like I was kind of like a kid, reading picture books again, but with more mature contents. The whole reading experience was really fun for me.

I think the book could stand alone for itself since it already felt complete to me in the end. But still, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK! Ahh, this is so exciting!
