The last thing Jamie Watson wants is a rugby scholarship to Sherringford, a Connecticut prep school just an hour away from his estranged father. But that’s not the only complication: Sherringford is also home to Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective’s great-great-great-granddaughter, who has inherited not only Sherlock’s genius but also his volatile temperament. From everything Jamie has heard about Charlotte, it seems safer to admire her from afar.

From the moment they meet, there’s a tense energy between them, and they seem more destined to be rivals than anything else. But when a Sherringford student dies under suspicious circumstances, ripped straight from the most terrifying of the Sherlock Holmes stories, Jamie can no longer afford to keep his distance. Jamie and Charlotte are being framed for murder, and only Charlotte can clear their names. But danger is mounting and nowhere is safe—and the only people they can trust are each other.

A Study in Charlotte is the first in a trilogy.

I was given an ARC by the publisher through Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Before I go forward with this review, I would just like to mention that I am not a Sherlock Holmes fan. I haven't read any of the books or watched any of the series, so I just want to put that out there. I found that most people who didn't like this book are those who really love Sherlock Holmes, but from this side, from my point of view, this book was totally entertaining.

Actually, that was the reason why I requested this book for review even if I am not a fan - I felt like it would be entertaining - and sure enough, it was. I get how it's weird for some that these fictional characters are supposed to be real characters in this fictional world (confusing, I know), but I totally enjoyed it. The mystery is not really good, but I was able to enjoy it nonetheless. I loved the characters, and I would love to read more about their next adventures.

There certainly are moments when the book felt a bit dull and I just wanted to skip right ahead, but I do get that the book couldn't be at this bar of high excitement always, because that would make me, as a reader, crazy. However, it’s still part of me not being able to give this book a higher rating because I want a book to be able to make me want to soak in every word.

A Study in Charlotte is definitely one of the most unique and entertaining books I’ve ever read. I have to admit, this book may not be for everyone, but for me, this book is a breath of fresh air from the similar storylines that I keep reading about.
